Felipe Luciano
Felipe Luciano is a journalist, activist, and poet based in New York City. A two-time Emmy Award-winner for his reporting, Luciano was America's first Puerto Rican television anchor. Co-founder and chairman of the Young Lords Party, and a member of The Original Last Poets, Luciano is an advocate of Puerto Rican heritage, community empowerment, intercultural communication, and civil rights. As a poet and multi-disciplinary artist, Luciano was active within the SoHo loft creative scene taking residence and becoming a life-long collaborator with painter Frederick J. Brown. Luciano’s work within SoHo loft creative scene also included joint-performances with multi-instrumentalist and composer Joseph Jarman and jazz trio The Revolutionary Ensemble. Luciano is a regular contributor to many New York area newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times and Essence, while continuing to write and perform his spoken word poetry.
