In celebration of Black History Month, The Shades Repertory Theatre will present a true story about African American storytellers in New York City before the era of cell phones, radio or television. In 1821, the African Grove Theater was an ambitious theatrical ensemble established in Lower Manhattan. They produced magical performances for all to see. Members of The Shades Repertory will recreate a moment in the life of this unique ensemble to give us a costumed tour of an inventive time.
